I've been told that initially it was for aristocrats and Franco's buddies and was not accessible to the working class. Over time it became more so with the addition of sandwiches to the menu. There's a lot on Wikipedia but I'm having trouble finding more info on the original accessibility of the restaurant to the working class. My partner and I had a delicious waffle and we each had a Reuben, which had turkey, ham, and melted cheese. Both were a delight! Coffee is about the same in any cafeteria in Madrid so it was good as expected. There are less expensive places to eat but Rodilla is easy to find so it could be worth a try! ”
